ENGL-16010 Cultural Criticism We tend to think of personal essays and critical essays as belonging to two separate genres: one concerned with the self, the other concerned with literature, art, film, and other cultural productions. However, many writers do not observe that distinction; instead, they use culture as a lens through which to view the self, or vice versa. This course will consider a number of writings that blur the line between the personal and the critical, and students will produce their own such writings, including an essay on an artwork of their choice from the College of Wooster Art Museum.
